Jess Barron in Town

If you are patient and good, class, we've got pictures at the bottom of todays post.

I saw Jess Barron, an old friend from college. Seems like everyone I write about on here is an old friend from college, but that's not precisely true. Most of the people I know these days _did_ go to Vassar, but I didn't know most of them when I was a student.

Jess, however, I did know. When I was the back page guy for the first time, she was my editor in chief. She was a features writer. And she was a whacko (in that lovable Vassar way) Now I'm a lawyer and she works for Microsoft. There's gotta be a silver lining, although I'm not sure what it was.

We caught up on 5 years of not speaking (due to relative distances and random social circle issues) Which reminds me that if I knew you at one point and we lost touch and you're on here, click here. Or, if you just wanna give me your contact info in case my current data is out of date, fill that in too.

She's the same overactive little girl I remember telling me that I should write whatever the hell I want and screw my critics and detractors.

So drinks with Jess went well, she's a whip smart chick. We talked about journals and blogs (she did Poprocks for a long time) and why I hate blogs (too easy: if anyone _can_ then anyone _will_ and there's no good way to crapfilter) and mutual friends and where I've been and we didn't even get to where she's been and who the guy standing behind her was until it was time for them to leave.

I remained at tribe long after they left, chatting with the two michaels, meeting random women (who all always think I'm sullen and withdrawn, instead of realizing that I'm just drinking) and dancing.
I did do some more dancing. Dancing keeps getting me into odd scenarios lately. At Spa last week, dancing ended up landing me hip to hip with the most attractive woman on the dance floor, whose name is apparently the same as Meghan's. It's possible that I didn't hear her right, but still. Tonight, dancing led to myself, anna, emily, and one other woman whose name now escapes me, in a weird little configuration, made weirder by the fact that at the end, when I was dancing with only one of them, I discovered that she was the younger sister, just in for the night from boston, and the older sister was giving me the evil eye. I didn't do anything, I just like to dance. I danced with Michelle at the Conquistadors show. Why wasn't I shaking my ass before?

Which reminds me that I've remained pretty quiet about what's been happening in my social life lately. The only large news to report on was the El Conquistadors show. It was an excellent show (there are photos, of course) full of beautiful people in the audience, more swerdloff dot com castmembers than you can shake a stick at (including Dori and Rana, each of whom I hadn't seen in a coon's age) and enough cross-social-circle-flirting-issues to fill up a room.

The band played an excellent set to a packed house of non-dancing people who couldn't buy liquor at the bar. But we could dance, so we did.

Bethany brought out several of her friends, and all eight (or was it nine?) of us ended up in my tiny East Village studio, where I amazed everyone with both the reading material in my bathroom (Richardson magazine) and the fact that I had seating for eight (or was it nine?) Tye (chris's boyfriend, I think, it's all hazy) bought two pizzas, and we got to my place and scarfed them down.

I had brunch today with Meghan and her friend and friends roommate, where it was discovered that no matter where I go, there's always a Vassar connection. Friend knows a few folks that I also know. I don't know why I'm surprised, but sometimes I think moving to Omaha might make me play less of the Do You Know game.

I've had a really great time lately, as the pictures will show. Oh, and more sign photos have gone up, click the sign picture at top right.

I just reread my epinions piece about High Fidelity. The review still holds, both about the movie and about me.

I'm feeling really disjointed right now. Tell me, what makes you lose your internal balance?
