Dinner with Dori and Ethan 2
I got grades yesterday. I ACED the two papers I was working on. Law and Economics and Plato as Legal Theorist. A and A- respectively. I still don't think I want to be a lawyer, though.
IMPORTANT NOTE: FRIDAY'S EL CONQUISTADORS CONCERT, FEATURING DINGO IN THE BAND AND ME IN THE AUDIENCE, IS AT 8:45 AT BROWNIES (169 Ave. A) NOT AT 9 AS PREVIOUSLY PRINTED. BE THERE AND MEET ME AND DINGO AND WHO KNOWS WHOM ELSE.
Back at work. Work is good. Good work. Building the DDB.com site. It's a slick little page. I'll be done soon, probably.
It's good to be back, frankly. Gives my life structure, a paycheck, a dope office, a dope officemate, good music (said officemate's jazz collection trumps my D&B collection) and back to the friends that I made on the job. With the cultural blurring that's happened of late, especially the office-friend cum real friend things, because people are spending so much time at work, it's good to meet people on the job. I met Dori, Zimmerman, my aforementioned officemate, and a slew of other people on the job. I've seend Dori and Zimmerman socially, and expect to see some of these others, too. No reason to cut people out of your social life just because you work together.
Speaking of Dori, I had her and Ethan over last night for dinner. I went to Dean and Deluca after work, grabbed Pork Chops and Mangos, and made my patented Pork Chops and a Mango Basil sauce. (Yes, I'm a Jew, no, I'm not the kosher kind of Jew) Ethan made Polenta with Tomato Basil sauce, and even though it was all out of season and such, we pretended it was early summer and feasted. Dori wants to move to New Orleans, which kills me on the one hand (hate to see good people move away from me) but I wish her luck.
I rented American Pie on DVD, delivered in 10 minutes (DAMN!!!) by Kozmo dot com. I'll totally use them again. Three day rental, delivered in 10 minutes? I can do that. Sit on my ass, or make dinner, and have the things delivered too me. What a great idea. So great that Urbanfetch stole it. (The rumor in the web community is that UrbanFetch's executives went to kozmo posed as investors, took their business plan and implemented. I have no verification of this, it may be a totaly lie, but it's what I heard.)
I was impressed both with the efficiency of Kozmo, and what may have been the funniest and most painful movie to watch since Happiness. This one was awful because of the constant "oh jesus, that was me-ness" about it. Happiness was disturbing because it pointed out the disturbing "oh jesus, that's my neighbors and wow are they all disturbed as hell and nobody in the world is actually happy" thing.
I had a damn good time, just like last time. They're good company, smart kids both. We can sit and shoot the shit and geek out and yuppie out all at the same time. Beam stuff back and forth via Palm's. I kept hearing about how much work was awful from my friends that got jobs during my first year at law school. I find that I really enjoy it. I like what I do, I pull down a reasonable paycheck, and I really rather dig this materialism/capitalism thing. I want something, I buy it. This isn't as bad as people said. I was under the impression that work was a veil of tears, and instead it turns out to be a way to kill time between bouts of shopping and going to clubs. I think I may be looking at this whole thing wrong, and I know I'm about to jinx it, but I'd like to say, for the record, I'm god damn happy right now.
Tommorow: El Conquistadors show. What else matters?
In other news:
I need new music again. I really like the new Beck CD, but I need other stuff. Suggestions?
I received the first email ever from someone who saw me carrying my sign. Apparently, it's working.
I'm going to fucking SCREAM if I hear one more person say "That's soooo last century/millenium." That joke was tired in 1001 AD people. STOP IT.
People who read this site have been contacting me lately. I don't think you know (if you haven't contacted me) how happy that makes me. I adore it. Email me. Just a quick "hey, I read your stuff, (you rule/you suck/you're weird)" would be plenty. I'd love to know that you're breathing out there.
