Iraq-Qaeda connection
I'm SHOCKED. SHOCKED I tell you.
So, there was an Iraq-Al Qaeda connection after all.
The proof that Saddam worked with bin Laden
Question: will any antiwar protestors, Susan Sarandon, the Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore, Tim Robbins or anyone else say "oh shit, maybe Bush was right?" Doubt it.
Papers found yesterday in the bombed headquarters of the Mukhabarat, Iraq's intelligence service, reveal that an al-Qa'eda envoy was invited clandestinely to Baghdad in March 1998.
The documents show that the purpose of the meeting was to establish a relationship between Baghdad and al-Qa'eda based on their mutual hatred of America and Saudi Arabia. The meeting apparently went so well that it was extended by a week and ended with arrangements being discussed for bin Laden to visit Baghdad.
The papers will be seized on by Washington as the first proof of what the United States has long alleged - that, despite denials by both sides, Saddam's regime had a close relationship with al-Qa'eda.
Now, the arguments against an Iraq-Qa'eda connection were:
1) Saddam and Bin Laden were so different in their aims and styles and beliefs that it was impossible for them to be allies. To which I generally replied "Uncle Joe Stalin and FDR weren't exactly seeing eye to eye, but there was still Hitler to contend with. War makes strange allies."
2) Iraq denied it. Of course, Baghdad Bob also denied that US troops were on the ground (curse onto their stomaches) when you could see our tanks in the background of his
3) Iraq sponsored terror at $25,000 a head for suicide bombers in Israel, and Israel didn't lead the world to attack Iraq in 1991. Believing for a moment that it was some special Palestinian issue is as naive as believing that Suicide Bombing is a viable tactic in warfare.
So, those who were against the war, ask yourselves now:
Still against?
