Catiching up

Much of a muchness to report. Lots of personal life happenings, replete with photos. (clicking on photo pops up a bigger version)

A roundup of the last several weeks, if you will. I keep meaning to post this stuff, but it just sits on my camera.

I've been given more responsibilty at work, which is why posting is so light. It keeps me there later, but it's interesting stuff.

In chronological order: Doug visited. It's a long time since I saw that rat bastard. He's the filthiest son of a bitch I know, and he brings out the absolute worst in me. I love him like ths sick bastard cousin that I never had. If anyone who knew either of us heard us cutting loose when it was just the two of us talking, well, they wouldn't believe it was Doug, at least.

Ok, maybe he and I are the only ones who get that joke. That's ok. He's one of my oldest friends from Vassar, we met freshman year when he was living in Davison down the hall from Ethan. He, like Ethan, had very very long hair at the time. I never figured that one out.

I spotted Alyson Alper at his going away party at Cowgirl Hall of Fame, but she left almost as soon as I arrived. I assumed it wasn't personal, and just dove into talking to some of his friends. One of them admitted that her boyfriend has an "online girlfriend" whom he was too much of a wuss to do anything with. Has that happened to any of you out there? Your boyfriend/girlfriend develops a cybergirl/boyfriend but they never meet? Seems weird to me.

I went to Dakota's birthday party, too briefly, and bumped into ex-Michelle and Brian. I can't say I remember much of that party, as I got there at around 11, just out of work, and didn't stay long. I remember a very disappointed cousin of hers, rain as hard as you could possibly imagine (I swear the raindrops had beetles in them) and briefly seeing one of my exgirlfriends. I remember a conversation where I tried to charm and cheer up the depressed cousin, and it led directly to my buying her and Brian a drink, and then my leaving with Brian shortly thereafter.

Once we left, it was off to a One Year Lease party. One Year Lease is Ari and Ionthe and Sarah Parvis' project (among others, but those are the ones I'm familiar with) where the put on plays and go to Greece. Their party had "US Patent Office" playing, which are the remnants of Conquistador.

I admit that I miss Conquistador. They were great fun, because they'd throw a show, and a bunch of my friends would show up, and it was a good central place to see people. They also had an ability to rock out that was a great deal of fun. When they broke up, they had a pretty good following, so far as I can tell. It was probably the right thing to do, they hadn't gotten signed at that point, and they were going in different directions with their lives, if the rumors were to believed. But they were still a great deal of fun to see when they were together. Maybe they'll do a reunion tour/show. Doubt it.

I didn't talk to many people at the OYL party, since, as Writerholic pointed out, I am "shy and unassuming." I did spot Mark and Brian Franklin and saw Tommy and Brian speaking for the first time in a dogs age, but I didn't have anything to say to anyone, so I watched the show, looked around for anyone to talk to, and failing finding anyone, I turned around and left.

Wednesday night of this week, I went to the grand reopening of Void. I was supposed to be at West 8th for Megan's party. I was just going to stop by Void, say hi to David Griffin (who is doing much better, for those of you who were wondering and who was up and about and walking) and then break out to West 8th for Re:Fuge.

That didn't happen.

A funny thing happened on the way to Re:Fuge.

In the single most ironic thing that's happened to me in at least three months, I walked into Void and did a double take. I saw a tall blonde talking to David, which isn't totally out of the ordinary, but she looked so much like Megan that it was a little disturbing. As I watched the two of them talk, I lip read the blonde saying to David "Jonathan Swerdloff" and that gave me a small hint that indeed, Megan was there. A little confusing, since she was supposed to be across town.

Also confusing was the fact that Nakiso and Brian Franklin were there.

I only lasted a half hour, having shown up at midnight after work.

We left, David and I, accompanied by his sister Mary and Brian Franklin, and went to Tommy's party at Carnival. Carnival is the new (well, new to me, at least) Brazillian bar on Houston and First. Very convenient.

At Tommy's post-party party, I saw Aydin, and I finally met the lawyer who worked with CrossPathCulture for a time, and I had a chance to dance until the wee hours of the morning (something I very much miss doing) which was terrific and rather unexpected.

I found photographs of myself the next morning on joonbug.com. Also, rather unexepcted.

Finally, last night, I saw the play "Intrigue with Faye," the new Benjamin Bratt and Juliana Margolis vehicle. It was good, and it touched on some issues close to my heart - total surveillance, a strange relationship, and pervasive technology.

And now, it's 11:30 on a Sunday night and there's somethign very fitting about my being at Tribe with my laptop, listening to "You can't always get what you want..." one of my favorite songs growing up.

Fathers day, today, was spent at work. I managed to squeeze out time to take my parents to bunch at Prune, but shortly thereafter, I tossed on my blades and scooted my ass down to work. I reccommend you don't go to Prune, if given the option, but only because there are so few seats, and if you're there, I can't go too. If you want to take me, however, I'm a sucker for a meal at that place.

And now, there's tonight, talking to a different Marie, who admitted to dropping out of school to be a Model (you wouldn't have seen my work, I work mostly in Europe) and her friend Liz, a bartender from Boston. I won't tell you how the story ends, because now I'm going to put the computer away and talk to them.

Many times a week, I just admit, I love being me.
