Busy week
A lot's happened since last I wrote. I had a delightful dinner at Prune with Marie, who in turn introduced me to a new bar with infused Vodka (which is shockingly good and shockingly easy to drink.) Over coffee, at the end of dinner, she drew me - a portait which I will scan and put up here as soon as I can get my hands on a scanner.
I met a new friend through Friendster who lives not far from me. This is an added bonus, as I know hardly anyone in my neighborhood at this point.
I think that there will be several new people joining my cast over the next few months, and some old cast members retiring their numbers, as I never see them anymore.
One of the new members will be Randi, if I ever get a photo of her. Randi was the first person I met when I was hired at HHR (well, after the receptionists) and she was tasked with making sure my transition from my last job to my current one went smoothly. She coordinated my training, and coordinated my transition, and generally made it easy for me to become acquainted with my new firm.
A year and some change later, she no longer works at HHR, and we've developed a friendship. She's read this site, and isn't 100% clear on why I do this (but then, neither am I) and she agreed to become one of the cast members.
She met me at my apartment after work, commenting on both the sexy new chairs (I love my chairs!!) and table, and on the fact that I don't have a television. We'd discussed TV in the past - I don't have one, preferring human interaction. Randi told me that she can't fall asleep without the TV on. She offered to buy me one for my birthday.
Two comments from this evening really stick in my mind.
The first was after we got a fruit fondue platter. I explained to her that I can't eat banana, because it makes me ill. She looked almost offended at the concept, asking "don't you know what you can do with a banana?" That raised both my eyebrows, but she refused to clarify.
The other question she asked was, and I paraphrase here, if I write so much, and I'm not bad at it, why don't I try to sell it? I tried to explain that between Matt and Michael, not to mention Jess or Brian, I'm a complete amateur. To boot - they've got time to write, and truly, I don't. It's not a crisis of confidence so much as a crisis of time. Additionally, I don't have an agent.
More has happened, but it is once again quite late, and I'd like to go to sleep now. I'll write more next time I can.
