I just got back from being on Trial. When I told Bethany that that's where I was going, she asked if I was lawyering or in trouble. I was lawyering, don't you worry.

Just like Jami and Dori can't talk about their jobs, as they've recently mentioned on their sites, I can't talk about the case. Attorney client privilege is a very useful tool. People talk about hating lawyers, and someone at the trial even mentioned the general hatred, but really, when you need one, you turn to one. You may not love us, but frankly you need us. When Shakespeare had a character say "The first thing we do is kill all the lawyers," that character was plotting open revolution and cutting out competition. Lawyers are one of the safeguards you have against tyranny. You may go without, but it is written: he who represents himself has a fool for a client.

You don't do open heart surgery on yourself, why try to fight whatever legal powers are arrayed against you on your own? That's just my two cents, though. (Note: not a solicitation or attorney advertisement)

So trial was interesting, and the settlement negotiations were as well. A definite learning experience, sitting at the counsel table, protecting my clients interests and so forth. As of right this minute, I find myself reassessing my career plans. Litigation is starting to look pretty good.

And, like they always said, law school is nothing at all like being a lawyer. Ah well. Fact is, I enjoyed the legal work.
