Odd weekend, finally over, and now today was odd as well. It's like the throes of the Hubristic Correction I've been in will never end.
I was supposed to go to a party with a newly made friend. She was to call
at some point over the course of the evening, and she never did. I ended up
going to Christine's place instead, having a few beers, and
hanging out with people of my own age, from college. Unexpected twist to a
night I'd intended to dance away.
The next morning was quiet, I worked on some of my outstanding web projects (I own too many unused domains, I must say) and then at night, I went to my Uncle David's house for dinner. Took Metro North over to Stamford Ct, where he picked me up at the train station, showed me the sort of office with a nice window and a view you can get if you become a partner in a lawfirm, and showed me the section of a treatise that he's written. If I ever need help with Limited Liability Corporations or Partnerships in Connecticut, well, he's the one I'll call first.
Went to his house for dinner, had dinner with my family out there, and discussed career paths. I'm convinced that there's a way that a lawyer with new media experience and an understanding of e-commerce can be useful, but I've yet to strike upon it. There's obviously _being_ a lawyer, but there's gotta be an alternate route. It's looking less and less like there is one.
Upon my return, I went to bed early, recognizing the need to get up early today.
I got up early today because I'd made plans to visit the Career Development office at Vassar.
I made it as far as the Croton-Harmon train station before I received a call from a professor whom I was supposed to have lunch with, that the school was shut down, all administrative offices, kaput. I sat feeling helpless on the train. I don't know anyone at Vassar anymore studentwise, so just a visit would be a waste of my time. So upon arrival in Poughkeepsie, I hopped the first available train back, and was back in my apartment by 1. I pursued some leads I've gotten, and we'll see if they pan out.
This is all on the heels of three social cancellations in the last week. How low is my stock that I keep getting cancelled on? I'm sure several of the reasons were valid, but still, one wonders if there's a karmic balance to social lives, and how out of whack mine has become.
And today, I was starting to make my dinner when I pulled out my chicken breasts, smelled them, and they'd gone rotten. The rice has just finished and the butter/oil is melted. I'm going out to buy more.
Some days, you just gotta throw up your hands and say "what the fuck happened here?" Today, in the midst of this stupid goddamned snow storm, in the wake of my cancellation festival, and with no plans in the immediate future, I ask you:
What's going on?
